SIMILES AND FEELINGS
Lesson in brief: Students will explore anger using similes.
Introduction: Explain that this activity will foster creative thinking by asking students to make connections between things they don’t usually think of as connected. Review or explain the meaning of simile: a figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared.
1. Ask the students to name the following:
three machines or appliances (e.g., television, car, computer)
two things found in nature (e.g., birds, rock)
one activity people like to do that ends in ing (e.g., swimming)
2. Record their responses on chart paper.
3. Beginning with the first machine, ask “Anger is like a _____________ because ______________.”
4. After receiving several responses from students for the first machine, go on to the second, and so on.

INTERNET DAY (17, MAY 2011)
Communicators
There are two requisites for Internet Day communicators: applicants must, firstly, be a means of communication (TV, Radio, Written or electronic Press), and must secondly undertake some form of communication which helps publicise Internet Day.
Write in your suggestion to us, and your logo will appear on the official web site. The level of commitment and actions to be taken are decided by each kind of media.
And what's more...
We want to promote this debate in all sectors of society on the occasion of World Internet Day, celebrated on 17 May. The Rights derive from the coalition’s emerging "Charter of Human Rights and Principles for the Internet" (#IRP) and the United Nations Universal Declaration and the discussion moved to the Wall and social networks that are the citizens who transmit to us their thoughts and proposals.

HAPPY EASTER 2011
EASTER TRADITIONS, EASTER DAYS...
Holy Thursday also referred to as Maundy Thursday. In Europe the Christian monarchs used to wash the feet of poor people on the Thursday before Easter in memory of Jesus's Act.
Good Friday
Good Friday is the commemoration of the Trial and Crucifixion of Jesus. In some countries the bells are tolled while in other countries they are silenced until Sunday. A custom also is the eating of Hot Cross Buns. Many superstitions go with hot cross buns such as they are a charm against evil and to keep indefinitely.

Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter Day. It is to commemorate Jesus's last journey to Jerusalem, when people cut palm branches to spread on his path as he rode to the city. Many other traditions are associated with Palm Sunday. In some parts of England it used to be called Fig Sunday because people ate fig pies or puddings on that day. In Wales it is called Sul y Blodau, Flowering Sunday.

A SYMBOL OF GOOD LUCK
A Cricket on the hearth has been a sign of household luck for thousands of years. This belief could stem from prehistoric times, when a Cricket's chirping provided a kind of companionship.

In China and other Asian countries, the cricket served as a watchdog: at any sign of danger, the chirping will stop. In the Far East as well as across Europe, it is considered very bad luck to kill a cricket, even by accident.
Almost every Native American tribe believed the Cricket, a bringer of luck, and they thought that imitating it's chirp was disrespectful.
Images of Crickets appear on charms and amulets, particularly those intended to ward off the evil eye, in ancient cultures of the Middle East and Europe

ST. PATRICK'S DAY IS TODAY
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.
On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

Categories:
1. Drawing. Up to 6 years old
What do you understand by reconciliation? Highlight the values of friendship and affection in your family and at your school.
2. Poster & Slogan. 7 to 12 years old.
The process of reconciliation is focused on the promotion of communication and the engagement between cultures, races, religions, political orientations, ideologies.... How can we achieve a mutual understanding despite our different points of view?
3. Mural. 13 to 15 years old.
The United Nations plays a major role in the prevention of conflict and in the reestablishment of peace and reconciliation. There is not a single model of reconciliation and that is why we would like you to give us ideas and ask you to paint about acts related to reconciliation and the promotion of friendship.
4. Photography. 16 to 18 years old.
As we all know, we learn by imitation, and that is why we ask you to send us pictures of situations or examples from everyday life which show acts of reconciliation and friendship. Be an example for everyone!
5. Teachers
Teachers take an important part in the development of social skills of students. The process of reconciliation can only be sustainable if it is inclusive and guarantees that all social stakeholders form an equal part of it.
The values of equality and equity have to be omnipresent within the action of education.
We suggest organizing a “Celebration of Friendship” where students reconcile with each other and learn to live together despite their differences.
The teachers will be in charge of organizing this symbolic event and are asked to send pictures and videos of the celebration.
